Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites Treasure Island Florida Wedding

Wow! We had a blast photographing this destination wedding at Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites in Treasure Island Florida, even with a few raindrops. Bad weather can help create some amazing photos. When the skies opened up with a rainstorm late in the afternoon for this Florida Beach wedding, the staff at Sunset Vistas quickly relocated this couple’s ceremony location to under cover in the courtyard. When the rain slowed up, we were able to photograph the couple with their guests in the beautiful tropical courtyard at Sunset Vistas. When we were certain the rain and lighting had paused, we raced to the beach at sunset for some dramatic portraits of the happy couple. The rain created some beach puddles, which we used to our advantage in capturing some dramatic beach reflection portraits. At first the cloudy skies photographed as a beautiful intense blue, and about 20 minutes after sunset we were treated to soft pink skies! We have learned time and time again to keep photographing after sunset at the beach, because the skies can develop with gorgeous colors, even on a rainy day!

Treasure Island Florida Beach Large Family Portraits at Sunset

After taking a break from blogging our portrait over the holidays, I’m happy to showcase this winter Florida beach portrait session in Treasure Island. We have experienced a mild winter, with Christmas Day and New Years reaching 80 degrees F. For this family portrait session, the skies were a overcast which created a nice minimalist background in shades of grays and blues. Even though Florida is known as the Sunshine State, as a photographer I can appreciate good cloud covered natural light. As the session progressed towards sunset, we added fill light to these portraits from 2 SaberStrips connected to a boom stand with super clamps. I really like when we add a little bit of fill light and keep our ambient bright with not too dramatic of a lighting ratio.

St Petersburg FL Senior Portrait Photos at Treasure Island Beach Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites

My clients vacation twice a year at Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites and hired me to photograph their daughter’s photos for her high school senior portraits. I photographed this senior beach session on a beautiful November evening, with perfect clouds and a little bit of wind to add some drama! The sand at treasure Island beach had formed into ripples, so I took advantage of the effect and shot some early strobist portraits in bright daylight with two Saberstrips. I love mixing natural light portraits with strobist shots at the beach; it truly provides two different looks. As much as I love photographing clients in natural light, some of my favorite images from this session are lit by two flashes inside two SaberStrips horizontal above my client.

Treasure Island Florida Beach Wedding at Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites

It has been such a pleasure to edit this beach elopement in Treasure Island Florida at Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites. Here is yet another reason why I can LOVE rainy beach days… amazing directional overcast natural light with a pop of sun and clouds for drama! We have had such a busy summer photographing beach portraits and weddings and I never tire of the endless visual possibilities the beach provides. The beach is constantly evolving and the colors and natural light are different from day to day (and hour to hour). Our clients spent the week at Sunset Vistas and we were honored to capture their intimate beach wedding elopement. I’m beyond happy that same sex marriage has been legalized in the United States by the Supreme Court because everyone deserves to celebrate their loving union.

It can be tough convincing families to wake up before sunrise to meet me on the beach for a portrait session. But early morning sessions can be just as lovely as a sunset session. This morning Treasure Island family session at Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites proves that early morning light is beautiful and worth the effort of gathering up the troops. My clients just had to walk out onto the beach to meet me for this session; Sunset Vistas is conveniently located within steps of my favorite beach areas in Treasure Island. And afterwards you can always go out for pancakes!

Clients sometimes ask me what to wear to a family beach portrait session as it can be difficult trying to coordinate clothing for a large family when everyone is traveling to meet from all over the country (and world) in this case! I love the turquoise blues and greens that this family selected, as the water and sky compliment their attire. My Pinterest board on this topic offers some inspiration.

Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites Morning Family Beach Portraits

This morning beach session in Treasure Island for guests of Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites almost did not happen! After rainstorms forced us to cancel their original sunset session, we were able to reschedule to a morning sunrise session. The weather that morning was great, not a cloud in the sky. Sunrise sessions can be tough because not all kids are early risers; especially if they have been staying up late after swimming and visiting Mickey Mouse in the days prior. After a little warm up, these little ones enjoyed playing at the gorgeous Treasure Island Beach which Sunset Vistas faces. We photograph a lot of guests of Sunset Vistas because the resort is situated in Treasure Island in one of our favorite beach locations which features a wide beach, natural dunes and grasses and an optimal positioning to view the sunset .

St Pete Beach Summer Family Sunset Portraits at Treasure Island

I have noticed that many evenings, my clients attire will compliment the colors of the sunset. For this family beach portrait session in Treasure Island St Pete Beach, the sunset colors were soft and subtle. I love how my clients clothing choice of soft pale peach, light grays and navy feel modern blends well with the natural beach environment at sunset. The kids had a great time playing at the beach….

Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites Family Portraits in St Pete Beach Treasure Island

This summer we have photographed many large extended families traveling together and this Treasure Island Beach portrait session is a great example. In between the rain drops, I photographed these families staying at Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites and I had fun watching the cousins and siblings interact and play. Many of our clients vacation with their sibling’s families and our gulf coast Florida beaches offer a great environment for family bonding. I love the dunes in Treasure Island, especially on this windy day as they offered some protection from the ocean winds.
