Our clients hosted their Florida destination beach wedding on Anna Maria Island at the Sandbar Restaurant. Their spring wedding day was absolutely beautiful with amazing cloud cover and perfect warm (but not hot!) Florida weather. The Bride and her ladies prepped at Sunrise Garden Resort Anna Maria Island and the shaded gardens provided a perfect backdrop for the detail shots and also for the ladies portraits. The Groom and his groomsmen dressed at Palm Tree Villas Anna Maria Island which also offered a nice garden setting for the groom’s details photos and fun portraits of the gentlemen showing off their LOUD socks!
This was my first time photographing a wedding at the Sandbar Restaurant and I was impressed. The beach setting was perfect for this destination wedding, and offered nice water vistas and great food. I will be back to visit the restaurant when I want to eat directly on the gulf (which is becoming a rare restaurant experience with waterfront real estate prices on the rise!)

Downtown St Pete FL Senior Portraits at Dali Museum Mahaffey Theatre

Wow! This shoot was all about chasing some beautiful natural light. We had a perfect day of cloud filtered sunlight at this Downtown St Petersburg Florida High School Senior Portrait session. I love photographing senior portraits in between our busy spring schedule of weddings and family portraits. Downtown St Pete Florida offers a very vibrant arts community with the Mahaffey Theatre and Dali museum next door to each other along Beach Drive. Both venues feature great art inside their walls and amazing architectural details. Living in Saint Petersburg Florida is very inspiring for me as a photographer, because I feel like I have access to so many great arts locations.
When photographing Senior portraits, I try to select a location which suits my clients personality and interests and this session delivers some nice minimalist touches along with some nice leading lines.

Treasure Island Florida Family Reunion Beach Portraits at Sunset

The Tampa Bay and Central Florida region experience an unusual cold front this summer, which unfortunately caused about 10 days of steady rain showers and storms. It also coincided with my two busiest weeks for portrait sessions this summer! Families visit our Florida gulf beaches in late July and early August for some nice beach time before back to school time for the kids.
My client Aloha Kelly is a talented photographer in the St Louis area and hired us to photograph her family and her husband’s extended family who were vacationing in Treasure Island for the week. We rescheduled twice before we hit a fairly clear evening for their sunset beach portrait session. Third times the charm! I’m beyond thankful that we were able to capture these wonderful moments…while editing these photos this week their family experienced a terrible loss. Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with her family at this time. Moments like this remind me of how much of an honor it is to capture images like these for our clients.

St Pete Beach Treasure Island Family Kids Photos at Sunset

My clients traveled from the Orlando area for an evening of sunset beach portraits in Treasure Island St Pete. Treasure Island and surrounding central Florida was experiencing some rainy weather but we were able to photograph their session with nice overcast light and intense blue clouds for the strobist sunset shots. This session reminds me once again how much I love my nikon 85mm 1.8D lens: sharp eyes, smooth skin tones and beautiful out of focus backgrounds. In my opinion it is the perfect versatile portrait lens and I use it far more than my 70-200mm as it allows an intimacy with my clients.

Saint Petersburg FL Couples Portraits at Treasure Island Beach

The winters in Saint Petersburg, Florida still amaze me; cool nights with warm daytime temps. While we occasionally experience some cooler rainy days, not so for this Treasure Island Beach couples portrait session. My clients were visiting from Canada and enjoying a south Florida tour as they began their vacation in Miami and made their way to Saint Petersburg for a beautiful blue sky day. As the evening progressed, the gulf breezes rolled in, but the chill in the air was no where close to the snowy that evening in their hometown of Calgary.

St Pete Florida Beach Senior Portraits at Sunset in Treasure Island

We have been fortunate to photograph some recent High School Portrait Sessions and this session certainly was fun and fashion forward. My client and her family drove from the Orlando area during their vacation from Iowa to have these portraits taken in Treasure Island Beach, just minutes from Saint Petersburg. I am so thankful that they hired us and gave us the opportunity to create these photos.
How much fun are these yellow heels and top paired with her white skinny jeans?! Sometimes we arrive at the beach on a sunny day with clear blue skies and it is fun to shoot some images with sunglasses while the sun is bright.

This coral dress totally compliments my clients great red curls. She brought along the gray hat and it always fun to create a different look!
A perfect pastel sunset to pair with our high school client’s cute southwest miniskirt and tank.
I really like blending natural light with strobed light at our portrait sessions, especially at the beach.

Northshore and Flora Wylie Park Sunset Family Photos Saint Petersburg FL

It is fall in Saint Petersburg Florida and we are enjoying the weather! The humidity has dropped, temps are in the 70’s to low 80’s and outdoor activities have become enjoyable again. Scott and I took Ana on a walk to Northshore Park this weekend and enjoyed the perfect temps and sunset. I had recently upgraded my 50mm nikon 1.8 lens from the D series to a G and wanted to test the lens. We walked along the bay through Northshore Park and arriving at Flora Wylie Park for these casual photographs of our family.
Scott helped Ana sit up, while I quickly got a few shots of her. I wouldn’t say she can sit up on her own quite yet, but we have been practicing with her at home. Most of these images were shot between F2.5; I rarely shoot at 1.4 so I decided the Nikon 50mm 1.4 wasn’t a necessary upgrade. This lens tends to be used more when I photograph weddings, but comes in handy sometime when I am taking photos of Ana. For an amateur photographer, this is the first prime lens I would buy to get away from the kit zoom with variable apertures and at $200 isn’t a major investment. I shoot this lens a lot on vacation… lightweight, decent for impromptu portraits and nice for low light details.
Ana and I happened to be wearing matching greens, which I think makes this photo of us look nice. Thanks Scott!

Don Cesar Hotel & Treasure Island Florida Lilly Pulitzer Inspired St Pete Beach Senior Portrait Photos

There is nothing better than combining Lilly Pulitzer and classic St Pete Beach Florida beach destinations. My client loves spending time in Treasure Island St Pete Beach, FL and adores the quintessential Florida resort clothing line, Lilly Pulitzer. So she decided to incorporate some great Lilly Pulitzer fashions into her senior portrait session.
We started photographing her session at the Pink Palace, the Loews Don Cesar Hotel.The rear courtyard faces the beach and was fillerd with gorgeous late afternoon sunlight.
I love this dress; the keyhole neckline, the side slit, the white lace detail. And her Lilly shoes are perfect!
Then we headed over to our favorite beach location in Treasure Island for these gorgeous images with this pretty white cotton strapless dress. I love her accessories; the metallic sandals and headband.
How amazing is this Lilly Pulitzer turquoise dress?! I love how as the night progressed, the colors in the sky picked up the accent pink colors in the dress.
On this particular summer evening, the sunset afterglow was perfect. Scott captured these moon images with two SaberStrips with a great low camera angle.
