Sometimes my clients book their portrait sessions the week before they arrive in Florida to enjoy their beach vacations in Treasure Island, Sunset Beach, St Pete Beach and Pass A Grille. Others, like this family, book in months in advance. I was thrilled to finally meet their latest addition and obvious star of this photo session: their 7 month old baby girl. Isn’t she adorable in her hot pink sundress and grey headband?!

Pass A Grille Beach Senior Portrait Photos

For this Senior Portrait session in Pass A Grille St Pete Beach FL, my senior was visiting her grandparents and decided to have her portraits taken while on vacation. Their home is located in the middle of Pass A Grille, and we were able to photograph some images in front of their home garden. The floral black dress looks perfect with the garden foliage. After an outfit change, we walked two houses down to the private access path to the beach. This path had amazing dunes which we utilized as a backdrop for some of the images. On the drive over from St Petersburg, I was very happy to see huge white fluffy clouds and blue sky to the south. As the evening progressed, a storm system appeared on the gulf, which gave us some dramatic skies before sunset and soft filtered daylight.
Once again, my client’s attire totally compliments the beach on this particular day. I love the subtle blues of the water and sky next to the green dunes.
My client had her friend join her on vacation, and I was able to photograph the girls together throughout the session. I’ve noticed the trend in Senior Portrait photography is to include these “best friends” images. I thought the girls looked adorable in their coordinating blue chambray and denim dresses.

Sunset Vistas Treasure Island Family and Kids Portraits

Its the height of summer visitor season in Florida and my clients were able to schedule a portrait session the week they arrived at Sunset Vistas Beachfront Suites in Treasure Island, FL. Several of my recent clients have stayed at Sunset Vistas and been very happy with the property and its great location. It was a warm night on the beach and the evening started off with sun filtered light through the clouds. Those clouds later made for an amazing sunset and post sunset sky.
This family chose classic white and khaki attire for their Treasure Island beach photography portrait session and I like how the mom and daughter wore summery white dresses accented with turquoise jewelry and accessories. Plus these neutrals really make their adorable auburn hair and light eyes pop.
Once again, we were blessed with a nice sunset! Clouds really add drama to the sky this time of day. Scott set up two SabersStrips in an inverted L formation to create this beautiful light and you can view how we frequently use this setup on the beach when other modifiers would blow away or be in photo frame here.

St Pete Beach Family Photos at Treasure Island

We have been very busy photographing family portrait sessions this summer. My clients visit Longboat Key, FL every summer and were able to meet Scott and I at our favorite beach in Treasure Island, FL. Last summer, we photographed their family in Longboat Key and this year they were able to meet us in St Pete Beach. This year I loved the blues, corals and whites that they chose to wear for their session. Its always fun to see the kids a year later: my how time flies!
What should you wear for your beach family portrait photos? Lately it seems my clients have been doing a great job of coordinating their portrait attire to compliment the sunset colors. While whites, tans and blues are always classic attire for beach sessions, I like to add a third color for POP!
We schedule plenty of time for sunset family beach portraits. Some of our favorite portraits are taken minutes after the actual sunset when the colors in the sky illuminate the clouds. Luckily there are plenty of ice cream shops in Treasure Island and St Pete Beach to keep the kids happy afterwards.

Longboat Key FL Beach Family Sunset Photos

This beach family portrait session was taken in Longboat Key, FL where my clients were vacationing. Portions of their family stayed at Wicker Inn, while some stayed at the Sea Oats Condos. We usually meet our clients and one and a half hours before the sunset to allow for variations in the weather. This night was a windy evening, with storm clouds rolling in right at sunset. I really like the blues and greens this family chose to wear; the colors remind me of sea glass.

St Pete FL Senior Portrait Session at Treasure Island Beach and Downtown Saint Petersburg

This senior portrait session was so much fun! It was a thrill to photograph Lily, the sister of one of my previous senior portrait clients. Lily lives in inland Florida and decided the beach would be a great location for her session. I had her stop by the house so I could help select outfits; one of my favorite parts of designing a senior portrait session. Lily is a natural beauty (like her sister) and I love how her hazel eyes and warm medium brown hair pop in these senior portraits.
We headed out to St Pete Beach Treasure Island on for a sunset shoot on a beautiful warm night. Scott and I started out shooting these first portraits of Lily in her blue dress with natural light.
For a few images while the sun was quite bright, I utilized off camera high speed synch fill to allow me to shoot at 2.8 at 4000th of a second with my Nikon D800 in commander mode with our Radio Popper PX triggers.
We walked out towards the water and took advantage of the gorgeous dunes this beach offers. Mom’s favorite dress was this cute red strapless and I think it looks amazing in this beach setting. Typically at this time of day we photograph our strobist shots with an Einstein and a 50 inch soft box. Scott likes to add a neutral density filter to get to nice portrait aperatures. When the sun was covered by the clouds I turned off my triggers and photographed Lily in natural light.
Closer to sunset we moved towards the waters edge where I like shoot a few remaining moments of natural light. At this time, Scott prepares two Saberstrips on a boom stand. Lily’s sister loaned her the cute colorful top and I love how it compliments the soft pastel colors of the sky at sunset.
On the drive back into St Petersburg, I had Lily change into this cute black dress and Scott suggested this location near the Green Bench Brewing Co. Scott handheld one SaberStrip for me while I quickly captured these images with my 85mm at 2.8. It was fun to give Lily another look and setting to her senior portrait session.

Saint Petersburg FL Couples Maternity Pregnancy Portraits at Treasure Island Beach

I love photographing maternity portraits sessions and it is especially fun to photograph a pregnancy couples session at the beach. My clients were vacationing in Florida before the arrival of their baby. My client was about 32 weeks pregnant at this session, which was a great time to capture this couples pregnancy session. I thought her ivory lace top with the black ribbon was an adorable wardrobe choice.
Scott and I photographed this maternity session at Treasure Island in St Pete Beach Fl after having to reschedule due to the previous day’s rain and dark overcast skies. I was beyond happy the sun shone for this session! With many of clients vacationing n the St Pete Beach areas, I remind them to schedule their portrait session early in their vacation to allow some room to reschedule in case of inclement weather.

Treasure Island Sunset Beach FL Family Beach Portrait Session

While planning their week vacation in Sunset Beach, St Pete Beach FL, my clients booked Kristen Sloan Photography for a family beach portrait session. They had rented a place in Sunset Beach, a residential beachfront community and beach located at the southern tip of Treasure Island, Florida. Scott and I photographed the session in Treasure Island at one of our favorite public beaches. I really like the combination of the black with the aqua for this family’s portrait attire.
I love how the sunset illuminates the clouds in this photo. Sometimes we are blessed with a perfect night for sunset photos.
