My clients opted for a small intimate wedding ceremony at the Don Cesar Hotel in St Pete Beach. Along with a few friends and family, they gathered in St Pete Beach to celebrate their nuptials. The weather report had been predicting afternoon storms for a few days and as luck would have it, a rainstorm blew into St Pete Beach just before we were scheduled to start photographing our couple. We quickly switched gears and went inside the Don Cesar Hotel for some pre ceremony portraits of this gorgeous couple. Luckily the rainstorm only lasted about 30 minutes and we were able to continue with the portraits and ceremony on the beach. As you can see by these images, we had a great time photographing this wedding!

Our clients gathered their extended family for a vacation at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Treasure Island beach for a vacation and we were able to capture them enjoying the gulf waters in Treasure Island. The newest member to this family was adorably outfitted with Pink Toms’s and I could not resist photographing her cuteness! The weather was overcast, but we were able to have some nice light blue clouds with a little bit of pink for some pre-sunset photos. The ever-changing weather patterns make for unique photos every time we photograph portraits at the beach; never the same look twice!

Its no secret that we love photographing portraits sessions in Treasure Island. The wide beach at Treasure Island St Pete Beach offers many photo opportunities in the natural grasses and Palms as we stroll out to the water with our clients. On this day we hit the jackpot with perfect clear blue skies and gulf waters. My clients were vacationing at Treasure Island Grand Resort and made the quick 10 minute drive to Treasure Island for their family portrait beach session. We come back to this area for portrait sessions frequently, but the beach looks different and unique every day due to the changing weather, lights and seasons.

Clients ask me all the time, “What should we wear to our beach portrait session?” I really like the idea of selecting 3 colors. The tans, whites and blues of this family’s clothing looks amazing against the water, sky and sand. The son’s gingham shirt, dad’s striped polo, daughter’s embroidered dress and mom’s necklace all add some unique visual patterns. Another bright color (like a yellow or pink) also could have been added for more pop and this works especially well for larger groups of people to add visual interest.

My clients attended a wedding at the Postcard Inn in St Pete Beach Florida and scheduled me to photograph their entire family on a Sunday morning. The wedding took place at sunset on a Saturday, so the portrait session was scheduled for early on Sunday morning which worked great for the young children and everyones travel departures. Morning beach portrait sessions offer amazing blue sky and blue gulf waters and the dunes just north of Postcard Inn gave us some nice shade once the sun was higher in the sky.

I really love photographing beach portraits on Sunset Beach at the southernmost end of Treasure Island, right in front of the Lands End Condos. My clients have been vacationing at Lands End for a number of years and their children booked us to photograph the family. This section of Sunset beach features nice dunes, a jetty and a quiet stretch of beach. The area can also be accessed by a short walk at the southern unpaved public parking area on Sunset Beach.

The sweetest part of this Sunset Beach Treasure Island family portrait session was that the kids hired me to surprise their parents on their 25th wedding anniversary. I was honored to commemorate the day!

We have been fortunate to photograph some recent High School Portrait Sessions and this session certainly was fun and fashion forward. My client and her family drove from the Orlando area during their vacation from Iowa to have these portraits taken in Treasure Island Beach, just minutes from Saint Petersburg. I am so thankful that they hired us and gave us the opportunity to create these photos.
How much fun are these yellow heels and top paired with her white skinny jeans?! Sometimes we arrive at the beach on a sunny day with clear blue skies and it is fun to shoot some images with sunglasses while the sun is bright.

This coral dress totally compliments my clients great red curls. She brought along the gray hat and it always fun to create a different look!

A perfect pastel sunset to pair with our high school client’s cute southwest miniskirt and tank.
I really like blending natural light with strobed light at our portrait sessions, especially at the beach.

What I love about this recent family session are the attire colors selected by my clients who were vacationing at TradeWinds Island Resort in St Pete Beach, Florida. Their clothing selections for their family beach portrait session look great against the lovely crisp blue skies and white sand. The whites and creams, various shades of blue and the pop of magenta really work at the beach. Plus most everyone owns a pair of jeans and the little boys navy pants and shorts add another tone of blue.

I love Cars and trucks. My instagram feed is full of them. The older, the better. We traveled to St. Augustine Florida in 2012, and I packed my grandfather’s Hasselblad 500C, bought some Ilford 120 film in St Petersburg at Zebra Color and decided to bring the Blad on vacation. I used to be a Kodak TMAX girl, but Zebra Color recommended the Ilford.
After walking around town, I spotted this beauty. Casa Monica Hotel. 1955 Chrysler Imperial. Just lovely. Well photographed I’m sure, but who’s counting?

I love the sound of the shutter when it releases and the crank of the film advancing on the Hasselblad. I was very proud to shoot this camera in college, as it had belonged to my grandfather who purchased it in 1958, the first year the Hasselblad was available in the United States. He had the Zeiss 60mm, the 80mm and the 150mm, along with a beautiful leather case, glass filters in every color you would desire, a polaroid back, film backs and a prism focus viewfinder. Nice setup for a college freshman at CU Boulder. I put a ton of Tmax 100 through this camera and usually printed on Ilford Multigrade glossy fiber base.

So in response to the recent BW challenges posed by fellow photographers, I decided to finally show these images. BW film is still my all time favorite photography medium, especially when printed on fiber base paper. And Zeiss lenses are amazingly sharp. When processing my digital images, I hand select images which I think would look great BW and then apply a warm tone BW effect in Lightroom.
