There is nothing better than combining Lilly Pulitzer and classic St Pete Beach Florida beach destinations. My client loves spending time in Treasure Island St Pete Beach, FL and adores the quintessential Florida resort clothing line, Lilly Pulitzer. So she decided to incorporate some great Lilly Pulitzer fashions into her senior portrait session.
We started photographing her session at the Pink Palace, the Loews Don Cesar Hotel. The rear courtyard faces the beach and was fillerd with gorgeous late afternoon sunlight.

I love this dress; the keyhole neckline, the side slit, the white lace detail. And her Lilly shoes are perfect!

Then we headed over to our favorite beach location in Treasure Island for these gorgeous images with this pretty white cotton strapless dress. I love her accessories; the metallic sandals and headband.

How amazing is this Lilly Pulitzer turquoise dress?! I love how as the night progressed, the colors in the sky picked up the accent pink colors in the dress.
On this particular summer evening, the sunset afterglow was perfect. Scott captured these moon images with two SaberStrips with a great low camera angle.

It was a beautiful night on Pass A Grille Beach FL for these portraits. Photographed along the residential section of Pass A Grille, we had a nearly empty beach all to ourselves. The late afternoon blue sky and clouds brought in an evening rain storm, and these portraits were taken as the clouds rolled in before sunset.

We have been very busy photographing family portrait sessions this summer. My clients visit Longboat Key, FL every summer and were able to meet Scott and I at our favorite beach in Treasure Island, FL. Last summer, we photographed their family in Longboat Key and this year they were able to meet us in St Pete Beach. This year I loved the blues, corals and whites that they chose to wear for their session. Its always fun to see the kids a year later: my how time flies!

What should you wear for your beach family portrait photos? Lately it seems my clients have been doing a great job of coordinating their portrait attire to compliment the sunset colors. While whites, tans and blues are always classic attire for beach sessions, I like to add a third color for POP!
We schedule plenty of time for sunset family beach portraits. Some of our favorite portraits are taken minutes after the actual sunset when the colors in the sky illuminate the clouds. Luckily there are plenty of ice cream shops in Treasure Island and St Pete Beach to keep the kids happy afterwards.

This senior portrait session was so much fun! It was a thrill to photograph Lily, the sister of one of my previous senior portrait clients. Lily lives in inland Florida and decided the beach would be a great location for her session. I had her stop by the house so I could help select outfits; one of my favorite parts of designing a senior portrait session. Lily is a natural beauty (like her sister) and I love how her hazel eyes and warm medium brown hair pop in these senior portraits.
We headed out to St Pete Beach Treasure Island on for a sunset shoot on a beautiful warm night. Scott and I started out shooting these first portraits of Lily in her blue dress with natural light.

For a few images while the sun was quite bright, I utilized off camera high speed synch fill to allow me to shoot at 2.8 at 4000th of a second with my Nikon D800 in commander mode with our Radio Popper PX triggers.

We walked out towards the water and took advantage of the gorgeous dunes this beach offers. Mom’s favorite dress was this cute red strapless and I think it looks amazing in this beach setting. Typically at this time of day we photograph our strobist shots with an Einstein and a 50 inch soft box. Scott likes to add a neutral density filter to get to nice portrait aperatures. When the sun was covered by the clouds I turned off my triggers and photographed Lily in natural light.

Closer to sunset we moved towards the waters edge where I like shoot a few remaining moments of natural light. At this time, Scott prepares two Saberstrips on a boom stand. Lily’s sister loaned her the cute colorful top and I love how it compliments the soft pastel colors of the sky at sunset.

On the drive back into St Petersburg, I had Lily change into this cute black dress and Scott suggested this location near the Green Bench Brewing Co. Scott handheld one SaberStrip for me while I quickly captured these images with my 85mm at 2.8. It was fun to give Lily another look and setting to her senior portrait session.

For Kristen Sloan Photography, spring break is an especially busy time for family portraits session at our local St Petersburg FL beaches. Scott Krebs and I photographed our clients beach portrait session just before sunset, taking advantage of great golden hour natural light. As the shoot progressed, we brought our lights to photograph some strobed sunset pics which emphasize the gorgeous colors of the sky at sunset and in the minutes afterwards.
My clients spent the week in Florida, vacationing first at Disney World before driving over to St Pete Beach for a few nights at TradeWinds Grand Island Resort. They wanted their daughters to enjoy some Florida beach time, and the girls were fascinated with the water and sand. Scott and I photographed this family at our favorite public beach access point just north of TradeWinds in Treasure Island, FL. This section of beach offers a wide beach, beautiful dunes with sea grass and a lovely curve at the waters edge for sunset portraits.

It seems like the sky colors are unique every day at sunset; truly one of my favorite aspects of photographing beach portrait sessions on the gulf coast of Florida.

Bridal portraits have been a popular requested portrait session for my business and I love photographing them for a variety of reasons. For this session, the bride was to be married in St Petersburg Florida with her ceremony held at First Presbyterian of St Petersburg and the reception held at the St Petersburg Yacht Club. Scott Krebs and I chose to photograph her at North Straub and Vinoy Park in St Petersburg FL a few weeks before her wedding weekend. These St Pete Parks surround the harbor and by shooting close to sunset, we were blessed with great cloud and sky colors at the session.
Bridal portrait sessions allow a variety of benefits for the wedding couple. For the bride, she is able to do her hair and make-up trial before the bridal portrait and then see the results in her photographs. The bride is able to put on all of her wedding trousseau and make sure undergarments, jewelry and shoes are coordinating with her dress. With my client at this bridal portrait, she was able to find out how much time it takes to lace her beautiful dress and add that time into her wedding day schedule.
On the actual wedding day, I am rarely allotted the amount of time with the bride alone that I have when I photograph a bridal portrait. This bridal portrait provides her with a relaxed environment to have her photos taken, also allowing her to enjoy the wedding day knowing that she looks amazing. These photos are a supplement to all of the great photos of her which will be captured on her wedding day.
We photographed this portrait session, starting at the Beach Drive Inn where our bride had her hair and make-up styled by Fruma Aharoni. There she put on her dress, assisted by two of her bridesmaids.

From the Beach Drive Inn we walked over to North Straub Park for some photos on the lawn front of the Vinoy Hotel and Beach Drive. On her wedding day our bride the most adorable fushia wedding shoes, but for the bridal portrait I wanted her to be comfortable and wear a pair that were broken in and similar heel height. I also did not want the fushia wedding shoes to get grass stains on the heels before her wedding day.

On this afternoon, I loved the sunlight filtered through the clouds and trees.

Before sunset approached, we walked past the Vinoy Hotel to Vinoy Park for sweeping views of the harbor and St Petersburg Pier. It was a little bit of a walk, but so worth the effort. I can’t imagine having the time to do something like this on an actual wedding day, so it was a pleasure to have some many great opportunities to photograph.
Throughout the session, I had the lighting expertise of Scott Krebs who utilized two SaberStrips in an inverted L shaped formation to create a lovely softbox effect.

Molly McConaty and David Coors were married over Thanksgiving weekend in downtown Denver. Since both of their families each go back five generations in Colorado, Molly and David selected venues, decor, food and drink to compliment their strong ties to Colorado. This wedding was a celebration of Colorado heritage!

Beginning in late September, I photographed Molly’s bridal portrait at Denver Country Club and was lucky to capture the gorgeous fall foliage in addition to the interior and exterior beauty of the Denver Country Club.

On Friday evening, Scott Krebs and I captured candids during the wedding ceremony rehearsal at Holy Ghost Church in downtown Denver. The bride and groom selected a western attire theme for the evening.

David’s family hosted the wedding rehearsal dinner at University Club Denver. Coors beer was featured, along with western guitar entertainment.

David and his groomsmen got dressed at his parents residence in Denver. We photographed the portraits of the gentlemen in their beautiful backyard. The gentlemen were outfitted handsomely in black cowboy boots. David’s dad, Pete set-up a boot shining station to help the gentlemen look their best.

Molly and her bridesmaids dressed in a room on the 9th art deco floor of the Brown Palace Hotel. Molly’s dress was purchased at Anna Be in the Highlands.

Molly and David’s evening wedding ceremony was held at Holy Ghost Church. The full Catholic Mass was officiated by Father Daniel Leonard and Monsignor Michael Glenn.
Flowers were designed by Jil at Moss Pink Flora. Sophisticated woodland rustic was the theme with hydrangeas, roses, thistle, succulents, orchids, nandina and seeded eucalyptus.
All of the wedding stationary, (including the invitations, church programs and menu cards) was provided by Rosie Wiedenmayer of the Paper Lady, Denver, Colorado.

The wedding reception was held at the newly opened History Colorado Museum. Hosting their wedding reception at History Colorado was particularly meaningful to the Molly and David since their families are fifth generation Coloradans.
The menu featured local Colorado ingredients of autumns’ rich bounty catered by Continental Divine Catering lead by Shannon Fitzgerald.

The wedding featured Colorado wines from Creekside Cellars. The grapes were grown and harvested in Palisades, Colorado, but crushed, cellared and bottled in Evergreen, Colorado.

A celebratory grand cru honey wheat ale brewed with local madhava clover honey from Lyons, Colorado was created by the groom, David Coors and Sandlot Brewery for the special occasion. Guests toasted the couple in monogrammed glasses. Later they were able to take these home as a favor along with a bottle of the ale customized with Molly and David wedding labels.

Jerry Barnett and Moments Notice provided phenomenal entertainment.

The cake and cupcakes were made by Brooke Smith at the Dessert Stand.

I photographed Amber Osborne, social media extraordinaire, while photo assisting Scott Krebs’ portrait session in Ybor City, Tampa Florida. I grabbed Scott’s Fuji X-Pro camera with a 60mm lens and captured some natural light shots of Miss Destructo in the late afternoon light. These images were taken a few days before Amber relocated to Seattle, WA.
