After a rainy and cloudy day, the sky let up for some late afternoon portraits of Fritzi. The wind on North Shore beach in St. Petersburg Florida was fairly intense and I was not being kind to my subject’s hair. We moved off the beach to a grassy area of the park, and then mother nature intercepted with some beautiful cloud diffused sunlight.
I lit the scene with two SabersStrips in an inverted L pattern as main light and then eventually as the sunlight increased, as hair light and side fill.
Shooting in Florida presents its own set of challenges; windy beaches, sand and high humidity. But what I love about photographing in Florida is the soft diffused light that lingers at sunset, many times described as the golden hour.
In many parts of Colorado, the sun dips behind the mountains and our overall daylight can be a little more contrasty in full sun. This week I am in Calgary, where the Alberta blue skies are warmed by 9:55PM sunsets which slowly fade into twilight. Photographers are always chasing the light and its fun to see the nuances of every geographic location.

Art Silk and I photographed Amy and David in Lower Downtown Denver with their dog Miles. The couple sought an urban setting for their engagement portraits and wanted to include Miles in their photos.
We are looking forward to photographing their wedding tomorrow at the University Club in Denver Colorado.

Recently I discovered an amazing wedding album and portrait album company called Kiss Albums. These modern albums are printed on photographic paper, mounted on sturdy pages and offered in a linen or leather cover. I was able to utilize their album design software called S.W.A.T. and share the album design on my Facebook page and as a link for the client. It’s super nice when the client says, “I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it Kristen!!! The album looks amazing…I wouldn’t change a thing!”
I love that they also offer smaller mini books called Little Kisses, which are fun for presenting a portrait session.
When the album arrived, I immediately fell in love with its beautiful fabric cover, quality leather cover and binding, and the way the pages are a seamless 10×20 page spread.

Today I was searching Pinterest looking for some artistic and garden inspiration. Dale Chihuly’s artwork work was featured in 2009 at the Phoenix Botanical Gardens. I had the pleasure viewing the display at dusk and as the evening progressed, night. While St Petersburg, Florida is home to the amazing Morean Arts Center Chilhuly collection, I prefer to view Chihuly’s glass art in an outdoor setting.

Looking forward to viewing Chihuly’s work in Seattle later this year at the Chihuly Garden and Glass.
