Picnic Island Tampa Bay Portraits

On a rainy August night I photographed Austin at Picnic Island Park in Tampa Florida. Between rumblings of thunder and lightening across Tampa Bay in the distance, I quickly fired off some frames before the rain forced us to a nearby picnic shelter.

Along with other members of the Tampa Bay Strobist and Photoshop Collective, I photographed Austin on the beach with a dark clouded sky which never allowed the sunset to emerge. I really like the simple dark grey background the evening sky provided for these portraits. I lit these portraits using 2 SaberStrips set in an inverted L formation creating a soft box effect with room to photograph. I also used one of my fellow strobist alien bee 1600’s outfitted with a small soft box. It is always fun to get together with other photographers and share tools and techniques.
